Solabee Flowers & Botanicals is a full-service floral studio providing fresh custom arrangements for delivery, weddings and events in Portland, Oregon and surrounding areas. With a commitment to expressive floral design, happy plants and a healthy environment, Solabee focuses on sourcing locally and sustainably grown flowers and seasonal beauty. With a a combined 20 years of floral experience Sarah and Alea work harmoniously and interchangeably, and are pleased to continue to create spaces inspiring and comforting to both themselves and their clients.


 

At a young age, Sarah’s family packed up their belongings on the family farm in the Ozarks and moved west to Oregon. They settled just east of Portland, above the Sandy River, on a couple acres where they grew an excess of vegetables and flowers that they sold at a little roadside stand during the warm summer months.

While looking for part-time work in college, Sarah stopped by a local florist shop, thinking that flowers were something she understood and could have some fun with. Little did she know that would turn into a decade-long tenure at one of Portland’s premier floral studios, where she would meet her future business partner.

Countryside raised in the lush Willamette Valley of Oregon, Alea comes from a family full of botanical enthusiasts, including a historical botanist and chemist. She holds a special connection to her horticulturist grandfather who is a well-respected member of the Tucson botanical society and life long mentor. While building fairy forts in the woods behind the family house, Alea’s relationship with the flower and plant world was normalized at a young age.

Her path to the floral shop was roundabout, but once she landed there and realized her role was to bring beauty into profound life moments, the work took on a greater importance. Working with living plants is empowering to Alea, who finds inspiration from Shintoism, in which a bond with the natural environment is paramount.
